Obituary for John Douglas Alexander

Funeral services for Mr. John Douglas Alexander, 90, of Grand Saline, are scheduled for 2 p.m., Monday, June 12, 2017, at New Testament Holiness Church, with Bro. Mack Swain and Bro. Garvin Pulley officiating.
Interment will follow in Shields Cemetery under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home.
Mr. Alexander passed away June 9, 2017, at his home. He was born September 27, 1926, in Grand Saline to James Earl & Maudie Lee Whitus Alexander. He spent his early years in Grand Saline and then served in the US Army. He lived many years in Arlington where he retired from Johnson & Johnson after 20 years of service. He moved back to Grand Saline in 1994 where he was a member of New Testament Holiness Church. Mr. Alexander was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alice Modene Prestidge Alexander; son, Ricky James Douglas Alexander; two sisters, Helen Strebeck and Lou Nell Joyner; and two brothers, Earl Alexander Jr. and Edward Alexander.
Survivors include his daughter, Teresa Duvall of Grand Saline; sister-in-law, Helen Barker Marett of Grand Saline; seven grandchildren, Troy Don Alexander, Timothy D. Alexander and wife Melissa, John P. Alexander and wife Regina, John Duvall, Jackie C. Duvall and wife Melanie, Keitha Swain and husband Cody, and Alexandria Blackmon and husband John; eleven great-grandchildren, Macy, Gavin, Collin, Miranda, Abbie, Kennedi, CaDee, Bethany, Jacob, Noah and Lucas; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Grandsons who will serve as pallbearers are John Matthew Duvall, Timothy Douglas Alexander, John Patrick Alexander, Noah Douglas Blackmon, John Stanley Blackmon, Jackie Clay Duvall, Cody Lee Swain and Gavin Reid Duvall.
Memorials may be made to Shields Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 95, Grand Saline, TX 75140.
The family will receive friends 4-6 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home.
