Obituary for Billy Lee "Bill" Hughes
Services for Billy Lee Hughes, 79, of Golden, are scheduled for 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home, Alba, with Bro. Grady Dollar officiating.
Interment will follow in Golden City Cemetery.
Mr. Hughes passed away April 30, 2023, at his residence in Golden. He was born July 16, 1943, in Golden, to Ernest Lee and Frances Amanda McQueen Hughes. Billy was a lifelong resident of Golden. On August 19, 1981, he married Jo Ann Nahrstedt in Golden. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad as a brakeman/conductor and retired after 43 years of service. His true joy was raising watermelons and spending time with family and friends. Billy was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 37 years, Jo Ann Hughes; brother, Bob Hughes; and sisters, Francine Butler and Anna Joyce Owens.
Survivors include his son, Ernest Hughes and wife Shubo of Lindale; daughter, Jennifer Wigington and husband Shayne of Mineola; two brothers, Mike Hughes and wife Joanna of Golden and Sam Hughes and wife Madelyn of Mineola; sister-in-law, Margie Hughes of Golden; three grandchildren; Morgan Kauble and husband Hayden of Van, Reagan Wigington of Dallas, and Jackson Hughes of Lindale; one great-grandson, Tate Kauble; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be David Butler, Danny Butler, Tim Butler, Kevin Hughes, Cory Hughes, and Todd Short.
The family will receive friends, 1p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.
