Obituary for Robert Windell Hodge

Graveside services for Robert Hodge are scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, February 4, 2023, at Lone Star Cemetery, Point, with Jeff Jackson officiating.

Robert Windell Hodge died in hospice care on February 1, 2023, at the age of 95.

Robert was born on November 26, 1927, in Wills Point, Texas to Jesse and Lewis Hodge.

He served our nation in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1949, where he spent time in Panama. He was in the reserves until after flight school when he decided to re-enlist in the air force, stationed at Clark Field in the Philippians. He served until September 1952 where he received his pilot’s license.

On May 8, 1963, he married Dixie Jean Armstrong of Shawnee, OK in Dallas, TX. The couple lived in Mesquite, TX with family, until they later moved to East Tawakoni, built their home and raised their family.

Robert retired at age 62. He and his wife, Dixie, spent many years of their retirement days on the beaches of South Texas.

Nothing gave him more joy than the birth of his only grandchild, Jared Allen Byrd in 2001.

He is survived by his daughter, Wendy Diane Byrd and husband Mark of Emory and his only grandchild, Jared Allen Byrd of Crocker, Missouri; a son, James Robert Hodge of East Tawakoni; brothers Lon Hodge and wife Janette of Wylie, TX, Jim Hodge and wife Nadine of Forney, TX, sister Patricia Hughes and husband Randy of Magnolia, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his parent’s Jesse and Lewis Hodge; wife Dixie; brothers, Luke Hodge, A.B. Hodge, J.B. Hodge, Bill Hodge, Homer Hodge and sisters, Katherine (Sis) Ashby, Sue Bishop and Annette Clemmons.
