Obituary for Arthur Owens

Services for Mr. Arthur Owens, 100, of Grand Saline, are scheduled for 11 a.m., Monday, July 11, 2022, at Bartley Funeral Home with Daniel Owens officiating.

Interment will be in Haven of Memories, Canton.

Arthur Earnest Owens passed away July 8, 2022, in Emory. He was born March 3, 1922, in Stephenville to Gilbert Lee & Maggie Lula Rhodes Owens. Gilbert died when Arthur was just a year old. Arthur lived his early years in the Red River Co. area, with his widowed mother, where he attended school in Boxelder and was a sharecropper. He joined the U. S. Army Air Corps Sept. 1942 and served in the Aviation Engineer Battalion during WWII. He built air strips in New Guinea, Okinawa, and Iashema, and had served as Mess Sergeant. After Arthur was discharged from duty January 10, 1946, he married Terah Roberts on January 26th, and they had two children, Danny in 1950 and Vickie in 1955. He lived in California and Colorado before moving to Dallas in 1952, where he owned a cement company. They moved to Grand Saline in 1955. In 1964, he married Opal Fowler. Arthur worked as a building contractor and eventually opened his lumber company, Owens Lumber Company, that he owned/operated from 1970-1979. They moved to Hideaway Lake in 1979 and then to Lindale in 1993. After Opal passed away, he moved back to Grand Saline in 2015. Arthur was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Opal; mother of his children, Terah Lapp; stepson, Richard Fowler; two brothers and one sister.

Survivors include his son, Danny Owens of Grand Saline; daughter, Vickie Kearney of Emory; stepdaughter, Regina Douglas of Lindale; five grandchildren, Koby Kearney, Tanner Kearney, Daniel Owens, Andrea, and Brandon Allen; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be made to the Family First Hospice, 2824 Terrell Rd Ste 402, Greenville, TX, 75402.

The family will receive friends 10 a.m., Monday, July 11, 2022, at the funeral home.
