Obituary for W L Akins

Services for Mr. W L Akins, 87, of Grand Saline, are scheduled for 2 p.m., Sunday, February 28, 2021, at Roundflat Pentecostal Church, with Bro. Homer Morgan officiating.
Burial will follow in Smyrna Cemetery, Rains Co.
Mr. Akins passed away February 23, 2021, in Dallas. He was born November 25, 1933, in Point, to William Luther & Birdie Mae Monk Akins. He spent most of his life in the Grand Saline area, where he was a member of Roundflat Pentecostal Church. He served in the US Army from 1955-1957. He retired as an Asbestos worker after 25 years of service, and was a member of Local 21 Union in Dallas. He owned and operated W E Brothers Construction, Starlight Club in Ennis, and The Game Room in Grand Saline. W L was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed both freshwater and saltwater fishing. Mr. Akins was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 50 years, Dorothy Akins; three brothers, Raymond "Chuck" Akins, William Akins, and Delbert Akins; and one sister, Dorothy Latham.
Survivors include his son, Russell "Rusty" Akins and wife Shirley of Grand Saline; two daughters, Debbie Larson and husband Mike of Midlothian, and Jan Brasher and husband Brian of Grand Saline; brother, Edward Akins of Fruitvale; sister, Helen Craine and husband Alton of Balch Springs; grandchild, David Brasher and wife Kristina of Rockwall; two great-grandchildren, Felicity Brasher and Jocelynn Brasher; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be David Brasher, Roy Delbert Akins, Eddie Lee Akins, Michael Don Akins, Shane Akins, Sammy Mack Robinson, and Jamie Woods, Jr. "Bubba Woods".
Honorary pallbearers will be Jamie Woods, Mutt Pugh, and Kenneth Dickerson.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Saturday, at Bartley Funeral Home, Grand Saline.
