Obituary for Shirley Ruth Swoape (Barnhart)

Services for Shirley Ruth Barnhart Swoape are scheduled for 11 a.m., Wednesday, February 24, 2021, at First Baptist Church, Alba, with Bro. Randy Bohannan and Bro. David Arnett officiating under the direction of Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home, Alba.
Interment will be in Golden Cemetery.
Mrs. Swoape passed away February 20, 2021, in Tyler. She was born July 3, 1935, in Fruitvale, to Horace Marion and Gladys Estelle Kuykendall Barnhart. On September 10, 1950, she married Loyd Coleman Swoape in Dallas County. Shirley lived most of her life in Wood County and was a member of Open Door Fellowship, Alba. She was everyone’s “Granny” and “Mother”. She loved to fish, garden, and cook for gatherings…. Shirley is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Loyd Swoape; great-grandson, Connor Blake Curts; one sister; and six brothers.
Survivors include her five sons, Loyd Allan Swoape and wife Beth of Golden, Freddie Leon Swoape and wife Galynda of Alba, Harold Lynn Swoape of Ft. Worth, Ralph Douglas Swoape and wife Sherri of Golden, and Martin Keel Swoape and wife Rayla of Alba; daughter, Kim Reine Eagerton of Mineola; brother, Horace (H.L.) Barnhart of Golden; four sisters, Hazel Hunt of Mesquite, Tressie Pearman and husband Johnny of Wills Point, Lana Childers and husband Rick of Golden, and Martha Parker and husband Danny of Quitman; fifteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren and one more on the way; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Sport Swoape, Ronnie Collins, Brad Swoape, Brent Swoape, Dusty Swoape, Jese Swoape, and Ramsey Curts.
The family will receive friends, 6-9 p.m., Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Alba.
