Mrs. Hazel Maxine Kirkpatrick Carnes, 95, of Grand Saline, passed away, Thursday, November 5, 2020, in Grand Saline. She was born on April 22, 1925, in Tahoka, TX, to Manual and Joanna (Howard) Kirkpatrick.
Maxine grew up in Grand Saline where she went to school and lived most of her life. She married William Harrold Carnes in 1944. Maxine was a member of First Church of the Nazarene. It was in church that she learned to sing. She loved to sing, and gospel music was her favorite. She sang in a quartet for many years. Maxine also loved to cook. She was known for her coconut and chocolate pies by her family and friends. She cooked some of the best meals you ever ate! Maxine loved to cook for her family, but she also enjoyed cooking in the cafes of different sale barns. Her meals were a big hit for the cowboys buying and selling cattle and other livestock. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 52 years, William Harrold Carnes; one brother, Clifford Kirkpatrick; and three sisters, Ava Nell Bivens, Polly McGary, and Wanda Brown.
Survivors include her daughter, Sue Burgess; son, Mike Carnes and wife Jean; two granddaughters, Laura Parr and Mandy Carnes; one grandson, Josh Carnes and wife Kristen; brother, Ray Kirkpatrick and wife Jerry; sister, Pat Batt and husband Joe; one great-grandson, Cody Moss and wife Ashley; two great-granddaughters, Micah Hassell and husband James, and Danlee Enzler and husband Francis; seven great-great-grandchildren, Greyson, Dakota, Michael, Holden, Luke, Ridge, and Emery; and numerous other relatives and friends.
A private family service is planned with Bartley Funeral Home.
Interment will be in Woodside Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Azalea Trails Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, 411 Spring Creek Rd., Grand Saline, TX, 75140.
