Obituary for David Eugene Bates

Celebration of life for David Eugene Bates, 60, native of Grand Saline, is scheduled from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Saturday, August 15, 2020, at Old School Museum, Grand Saline. This will be a time to share memories with family and friends in a come-and-go casual setting.

David passed away July 31, 2020. He was born December 11, 1959, in Lynwood, California. He would tell you he was born in Los Angeles if asked, and it was Los Angeles county. He was a 1978 graduate of Grand Saline High School; earned associates degree at Tyler Junior College and bachelor’s degree, Law & Social Justice from DePaul University in 2015; and was studying online at The University of Edinburg for a master’s degree in medieval history. Although retired in late 2016 due to declining health, David had worked for AT&T in Chicago and Frontier Communications in Connecticut for many years in a variety of consultative sales positions. He loved to travel and did manage to take a few once-in-a-lifetime trips. He also enjoyed genealogy research and he enjoyed reading books about the history. David was a great friend to many and an unbelievable brother, son, and uncle. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Grady M. Bates and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Wayne Watson.

Survivors include his parents, Eugene and Paula Bates of Grand Saline; sis, Deana of Farmersville and husband, Scott McCarns; brother Hobert Paul Bates of Grand Saline; nephew, Casey Clower and wife, Crystal; niece, Kayla McCarns of Farmersville; two great-nephews; and numerous other relatives and friends.
