Obituary for Richard McLeod

Memorial services for Mr. Richard McLeod, 87, Grand Saline, are scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, February 1, 2020, at Bartley Funeral Home with Bro. Steve Futch and Alec Autry officiating.
Mr. McLeod passed away January 30, 2020, in Grand Saline. He was born October 31, 1932, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Daniel Bishop & Lessa Gertrude Pack McLeod. Richard spent his early years in Pittsburgh and moved to South Carolina when he was ten. In 1951, he moved to Maryland, where he would meet his bride, Janice Martin. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. The couple married in Maryland in 1955, after he returned from his service. Richard and Janice moved to Texas the summer of 1957. They lived most of the last 63 years in Chico, where he was a Deacon at First Baptist Church of Chico, a member of Chico Masonic Lodge and served two terms as a member of the Chico ISD School Board. They moved to Grand Saline four years ago where he was a member of Sand Flat Baptist Church. Richard loved to play dominoes and horseshoes and enjoyed fishing. He especially treasured his family and loved spending time with them. Mr. McLeod is preceded in death by his parents; son, Stephen McLeod; four sisters; and one brother.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Janice McLeod of Grand Saline; two daughters, Dana Clair and husband Danny of Wills Point and Kelly Phariss and husband Gary of Lake Dallas; four grandchildren, Jessica, Caleb, Dane and Jacob; five great-grandchildren, Alec, Lessa, Ryleigh, Kynleigh and Hayden; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Clair, Gary Phariss, Eric Autry, Caleb Phariss, Dane Phariss and Jacob McLeod.
Memorials may be made to Azalea Trail Nursing Center.
