Obituary for Marvin Jerome "Harp" Davis

Services for Mr. Marvin Jerome "Harp" Davis, 83, of Grand Saline, are scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, September 13, 2019, at Bartley Funeral Home with Bro. Billy Smith and Bro. Jimmy Jones officiating.
Interment will be in Corinth Cemetery.
Mr. Davis passed away September 10, 2019, in Grand Saline. He was born September 24, 1935, in Grand Saline, to William Ray & Nannie Odessa Hollis Davis. He was a lifelong resident of Grand Saline where he farmed family land his entire life. He and Hazel truck farmed for many years selling his produce at the Dallas Farmer's Market. The quality of the produce was well known as he had many repeat weekly customers. As part of a market advertising campaign, he was asked to represent the market as the picture of a true farmer. This was quite an honor for a modest and humble farmer. In later years, Harp's garden supplied vegetables for family, friends and neighbors. His love of gardening was evident as he maintained the peas in the field ready to pick. He was a member of Corinth Missionary Baptist Church, former Sunday school superintendent and Sunday school teacher. Mr. Davis is preceded in death by his parents; wife of 59 years, Hazel Whatley Davis; brother, Jessie Lee Davis; and sister, Cindy Burge.

Survivors include his two daughters, Donna Nash of Grand Saline, and Debbie Stanford and husband Carl of Grand Saline; two sisters, Ona DiSalvo of Grand Saline and Inis Stradford of Albuquerque, NM; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Chris Weaver, Craig Stanford, Patrick Rowe, Chad Green, Kyle Thompson and Eric Tabraham.
Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Sloan and Wayne Sloan.
Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.
