Obituary for Mona Pope Davis (Pope)

She was born on the farm in Alba on Tuesday, May 21, 1918, to the late William Clark Pope and Laura Ethel Harvey Pope. At the age of 16, she married Raymond Earl Davis “Bigdaddy”, on Saturday, September 8, 1934. They celebrated their 85th wedding anniversary in heaven. She worked on the farm until they moved to Mineola in 1956. She later went to work for Eat Shop, South Western Bell, Buddy Schoellkopf, Lorna Fashions & then retired to keep great grandkids. She loved her family and friends and she was known for her sharp memory and keen sense of humor.

She was a member of the Church of Christ in Golden.

Mona Mae Davis of Mineola, passed away Saturday September 7, 2019, in Mineola, peacefully with loving family by her side. Survivors include her daughter, Ann Nolen of Carthage; son, James Davis and wife Helen of Quitman and Donald Davis of Frankston; daughter, Rita Avery of Mineola; sister-in-law, Neva Pope of Alba; and 6 generations of family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; twin brother, Barney Pope; brothers, Kenneth Pope & Marvin Pope, baby brother, Jink Pope; and sister, Ozella Taylor; her husband, Raymond E Davis; son Gerald Wayne Davis; sons-in-law, Cecil Avery and Earl Nolen, and daughter-in-law, Sue Davis.
