LONE OAK – Memorial services for Travis Wayne Burney, 83, of Lone Oak, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, March 31, 2019, at Bullcreek Cowboy Church, under the direction of the family, with Pastor Jeff Jackson and Randy Bird officiating.
Cremation arrangements are under direction of Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home, Alba.
Mr. Burney passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2019, in Greenville.
He was born August 1, 1935, in Snyder, to the late Willie Connor and Mary Oleta Mitchell Burney. Travis married Patricia Suzzetta Melton on January 30, 1974, in Greenville. He graduated from Odessa High School in 1954, where he was an outstanding athlete and a member of the rodeo team. He lived in Lone Oak since 1973 and was a Shriner. Travis was fourth in the world in AQHA calf roping and seventh in the world in PRCA as a heeler.
Survivors include his sons, Dusty Burney of Andrews, Truett Burney and wife Dawn of Greenville, William Burney of Lone Oak, and Robert Burney and wife Melisa of Greenville; daughters, Cindy Burney and husband Jeff Usavage of Sarasota, Florida, and Robin Eldridge and husband Steve of Lone Oak; brother, Mike Burney of Waco; grandchildren, Kassey, Cody, Audrey, Josie, Jackson, Jaden, Makaila, Makenna, Makenzie, Collin, Kimberly, Trenton, Kaitlyn, and John; great-grandchildren, Maelyn, Judsen, and Paizlee; and his four legged grandbabies, Murphie and Petie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia Burney; brothers, Billy “Bud” Burney and Jerry Dale Burney; and sisters, Bobbie Hillier and Joy Jones.
