Obituary for Dennis Murre

Dennis Ray Murre, son of Clarence and Ruth Murre, was born in Sheboygan, WI. During his formative years, Dennis was an avid outdoorsman, particularly enjoying hunting - a sport he enjoyed throughout his life and one he shared with his sons Paul and Logan. Upon graduation from Sheboygan High, he was drafted and served with distinction in the United States Army as a sharp shooter. Deployed two years in Vietnam, Dennis served with honor, purpose and pride at a difficult time in our nation’s history.

Having trained at Fort Campbell, Dennis fell in love with Tennessee, making Nashville his home upon completion of his military service. It was there that he raised his five children: Dennis, Shannon, Paul, Kristy and Logan. He joined a baking conglomerate which is now Sara Lee in 1969 and retired 35 years later in 2004. Dennis travelled extensively, nationally and internationally, as the department head of the Mechanical and Engineering Departments. Over the years, he accumulated awards such as Department Head of the Year, Safety Awards, and “Gold Medal” status. It was while working for the bakery that he and his wife, Susan, met. They married in Gatlinburg, TN, in November of 1992, just recently celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary.

Dennis, Susan and Logan moved to Texas in 2004 eventually making their home in Fruitvale. Though his health no longer allowed him to do much hunting, he enjoyed passing his time reading Guns and Ammunition and Shooting Times, watching Nascar, and he was extremely fond of his pets, Flash, Rags, Angel and Shelby.

Dennis is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence & Ruth Herzog Murre; grandson, Justin Reed; sister, Laverne Gries; and Jaqueline Murre.
