ALBA – Funeral services for Oliver Richardson Barnes, 96, of Alba, are scheduled for Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Alba, with Bro. Kelly Burton officiating.
Burial will be in Stepp-Barnes Cemetery, Weatherford, under the direction of Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home, Alba.
Mr. Barnes passed away Friday, March 31, 2017, at his residence in Alba.
He was born Tuesday, October 26, 1920, in Chattanooga, OK, to the late Jake Wesley and Regina Redway Barnes. He graduated in the class of 1938 at Loveland, Oklahoma High School and also graduated from Southwest Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, with a Bachelor’s degree in Music/Education. He spent his early years in Oklahoma growing up on the farm and then lived several years in Belton. He served in the Navy for two years during WWII, went back to the farm for about 7 years, then moved to Fort Hood and worked for 25 years as an Aircraft Mechanical Engineer. Oliver and his wife spent 35 years helping build over 100 mission churches from Mexico to Canada as volunteers. After retirement, he was heavily involved in Christian Volunteer Builders.
Survivors include his son, Larry and wife Cecile Barnes of Alba; grandchildren, Bryan and wife Kim Barnes of Alba, Lynn and husband Brad Gibson of Anna, and Lee and husband Tom Brandvold of Cedar Park; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ina Mae Barnes; brothers, Lawrence Barnes and Don Barnes; and sister, Lola Pearl Mefford.
Pallbearers will be Bryan Barnes, Michael Barnes, Alex Barnes, Tom Brandvold, Logan Brandvold, Jake Brandvold, Brad Gibson, and Tanner Gibson.
Honorary pallbearers are the Patriot Guard.
Memorials can be made to First Baptist Church of Alba Building Fund,
Visitation will be Tuesday one hour prior to service.
