Obituary for Roy Don Shipp

QUITMAN – Services for Roy Don Shipp, 73, of Quitman, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, July 20, 2015, at Emory Baptist Church with Bro. Jim Parker and Bro. Jerry Jackson officiating.
Burial will be in Salem Cemetery under the direction of Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home, Alba
Mr. Shipp passed away Friday, July 17, 2015, in a Tyler hospital.
He was born Friday, September 12, 1941, in Greenville, to the late Roy McKee and Donna Marie Bishop Shipp. He grew up in Rains County and moved to Wood County in 1993. He was a fire fighter, dairy farmer, and crop farmer. He served two terms as Commissioner in Rains County and two terms in Wood County. He served as president of Rains ISD School Board, and also was a land developer and home builder. He loved his animals, the mountains, Colorado, traveling, and he had a fantastic sense of humor. He married Myra Sue English on June 28, 1993, in Victor, Colorado. He was a member of Bright Star Baptist Church, Alba.
Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Myra Shipp of Quitman; sons, Douglas Shipp and wife Vera of Emory, Marcus Ray and wife Samantha of Colorado Springs, Colorado; daughters, D’Lee Daleo and husband Nick of Elk Grove, California, Tamera Gaddis and husband Dave of Emory, and Jennifer Reis and husband Kendall of Dover, Delaware; brothers, Travis Shipp and wife Audrey of Big Sandy, and K.W. Shipp and wife Joyce of Alba; 4 grandchildren, Jordan, Jackson, Austin, and Daniel. Numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Earl Shipp; sister, Marchetta Bone; and an infant granddaughter, Matigan Lee Orbin.
Pallbearers are Marcus Ray, Kendall Reis, Clint Perkins, Jesse Haggerty, Jay Haggerty, Jimmy Shipp, Michael Earl Shipp, Thomas Kemp, and Trent Goodwin.
Family visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
