Dennis Michael “Mike” Smith

QUITMAN – Memorial services for Dennis Michael “Mike” Smith, 69, of Quitman, will be scheduled by the family at a later date.
Cremation arrangements are under direction of Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home.
Mr. Smith passed away Thursday, April 12, 2018, in Quitman.
He was born Sunday, April 10, 1949, in Springfield, Illinois, to the late Richard Glen and Dorothea Eileen Morrison Smith. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1967. He married Kathy Cowan on April 20, 2004, in Miami, Florida. Mike and Kathy lived in Quitman since March 2012. He retired March 1, 2011, shortly after working for Cage, Inc. where he was a Site Manager-Consultant, over installation of baggage systems at MIA and JFK airports. He drove drag race cars, he liked cruises and traveling, NASCAR, NHRA, and playing golf. He loved spending time with family and friends. He started computers at age 50 and became very proficient with them. He was a Union Millwright for 33 years in the Construction industry.
Survivors include his wife of almost 14 years, together 25 years, Kathy Cowan Smith of Quitman; son, Brian and wife Julie Smith of Springfield, Illinois; step-son, Tyler Cowan of Castle Rock, Colorado; sister, Jan Allen of Springfield, Illinois; brother-in-law, Gary Krell of Quitman; grandchildren, Taylee Cowan, Alie Smith, Carlie Smith, and Jon Smith; nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Bart Smith.
