Obituary for Joe Dean Allen

Joe Dean Allen
Services for Joe Dean Allen, 85, of Grand Saline, are scheduled for 1 p.m., Saturday, April 7, 2018, at Bartley Funeral Home with Bro. Donnie Herring officiating.
Interment will be in Rodgers Cemetery.
Mr. Allen passed away April 1, 2018, in San Antonio. He was born February 3, 1933, in Grand Saline to Arthur Elvy & Della Media Monk Allen. He was a lifelong resident of Van Zandt County where he retired from Burns Security as Captain of security at Morton Salt. He was better known as Uncle Joe with Uncle Joe’s World-Famous Cheese Bait. Joe is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Dwight, Bill and Earl; and four sisters, Margaret, Reva, Mary and Virginia.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, JoNell Allen of Grand Saline; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dean & Judy Allen of San Antonio and Gary & Sharla Allen of Grand Saline; six grandchildren, Jamie Lopez, Chad Moore, Ashley Travis, Leah Martinez, Lyna Henderson and Kristey Busby; seven great-grandchildren; lifelong best friend, Terry Goggans; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Master fisherman, inventor, poet, songwriter and amazingly creative practical joker, Joe brought laughter and joy to family and friends throughout his life. His special “extra loud” cannon will be fired in remembrance of his wonderful sense of humor. We know he’ll hear it in heaven.
A loving and fiercely loyal family man and friend, Joe has truly been an angel among us. Godspeed, Joe.
Pallbearers will be Chad Moore, Ronnie Davidson, Herman Burgess, Ernest Veach, Terry Goggans and Eddie Gronewald.
Memorials may be made to Hope Hospice, 611 N. Walnut Ave., New Braunfels, TX 78130.
