ALBA – Funeral services for Delbert Don Vaughn, 83, of Ames, Oklahoma, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at Pilgrim Rest #2 Baptist Church, Golden, with Pastor Doug Vaughn officiating, under the direction of Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home, Alba.
Mr. Vaughn passed away Friday, January 19, 2018, at a rehab center in Hennessey, Oklahoma.
He was the third of five children, born Thursday, August 2, 1934, in Marietta, Oklahoma, to Wallace Monroe and Ewilda Patton Vaughn. Don attended school in Marietta, Oklahoma. He met Sonja Roberta Terry in January of 1955 and they were married four and a half months later, on June 11, in Gainesville. A couple of years before Don and Sonja met, Don worked in the oilfield for his brothers-in-law, Obe McKibban and Bob Culwell. In 1956, he was drafted into the Army and was assigned to Holloman Air Force Base near Alamogordo, New Mexico. Delbert was better known as Don, Dad, Papaw, Unc, and even Squarehead to his oilfield roughneck and driller friends.
He is survived by his faithful wife of 62 and a half years, Sonja Vaughn of Hennessey, Oklahoma; sons, Doug and wife Tanie Vaughn of Decatur, Brent and wife Lisa Vaughn of New River, Arizona, and Joel Vaughn of Alba; brothers, Jerry Vaughn of Buffalo Valley, Oklahoma and Larry Vaughn of Marietta, Oklahoma; sister, Winnie McKibban of Healdon, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Trevin and wife Missy Vaughn, Rebekah and husband Jody Totten, Colt Vaughn, and Dakota Vaughn; great-grandchildren, Stella, Sadie, Gunner, Carson, Kayla, Patrick, and one on the way; aunts and uncles, multitudes of nephews and nieces, and countless close family and loving friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace Vaughn and Ewilda Phillips; brother, Dennis Vaughn; sister, Oleta Culwell; and daughter-in-law, Julie Vaughn.
Pallbearers will be Colt Vaughn, Dakota Vaughn, Trevin Vaughn, Steve McKibban, Robert Culwell, Randy Vaughn, and Billy Vaughn.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Goodwin, Brad Culwell, Eddie Vaughn, and Bobby McKibban.
