ALBA – Services for James Spurgeon Thompson, 79, of Alba, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, January 23, 2016, at Pilgrim Rest No. 2 Baptist Church, with Bro. Craig Kearby and Bro. James Morris officiating.
Burial will be in Llano City Cemetery, Llano, on Sunday, January 24, 2016. There will be no graveside service.
Mr. Thompson passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at his residence in Alba.
He was born Friday, November 27, 1936, in Fittstown, Oklahoma, to the late Dessie and Effie Adaline Daniels Thompson. He served in the Army Air Corps during the Vietnam War, and was a commercial pilot for United Airlines for 27 years and retired as Captain. He married Janet Boles on February 11, 2003, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was a member of the U.S. Precision Flight Team, a race car builder and driver, and a valued contractor for the U.S. Government. He lived most of his life in Colorado, and had lived in the Alba area for seven months. His hobby was remote control airplanes. He was a member of Pilgrim Rest No. 2 Baptist Church, Golden.
Survivors include his wife Janet Thompson of Alba; son Jeff Thompson of Houston; daughters and spouses, Andrea Thompson of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Jamie and Glen Dunnam of Bowie, and Julie and Scott Harris-Willeford of Kaufman; sister, Jo Gillam of California; 6 grandsons, Zachary Dunnam, Jacob Dunnam, Hunter Harris, Hanson Harris, Callon Willeford, and Larson Willeford; granddaughter, Meg Thompson; great-grandson, Brandon Stephens; numerous other relatives and friends; and canine companions, Cowboy, Anasazi, and Feather.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Helen Lowery; brothers, Ken Thompson, Ray Thompson, Jack Thompson, Wayne Thompson, Vernon Huey, and V.T. Huey.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be one hour prior to service time.
