Obituary for Ruth Sayers Adkins

Services for Ruth Sayers Adkins, 80, of Grand Saline, are scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday, September 26, 2015, at Main Street Baptist Church with Bro. Paul Henry & Dr. Bruce Smilie officiating under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home.
Interment will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery.
Mrs. Adkins passed away September 23, 2015, in Garland. She was born October 25, 1934, in Van Zandt County to Eddie Joel & Fannie Wade Starnes Sayers. She spent most of her life in the Silver Lake community and retired as a real estate broker. Mrs. Adkins was a member of Main Street Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for over 25 years and was in the Friendship Class and Fun after 55 group. She was also a member of the Grand Saline Study Club, served as secretary of Silver Lake Cemetery Association for many years and was involved in a special social group called "IFFS". She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Billy Russell Adkins.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly & Tom Ryan of Garland; Jane & Jim Via of Edmond, OK; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Eddie Joel & Paula Sayers, Jr. of Providence community near Grand Saline; and Don & Kathy Sayers of Grand Saline; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Florence & Lee Choate of Ft. Worth and Joann & Wayne Petrea of Providence community; five grandchildren, Kristi & Chris Cates, Karen & Jonathan Teoli, SSG John & Christina Ryan, Christopher & Emily Shirey and Tim & Kandy Shirey; thirteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives & friends.
Pallbearers will be Chris Cates, Jonathan Teoli, SSG John Ryan, Christopher Shirey, Tim Shirey, Peyton Shirey, Matthew Henry and Jacob Vrba.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kyle Cates, Preston Shirey, Nicholas Cates, Garrett Cates and Nathanial Cates.
Memorials may be made to the Fun after Fifty Five group at Main Street Baptist Church or Silver Lake Cemetery Association.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Friday, September 25, 2015, at the funeral home.
