Services for Alvin Earl Vess, 67, of Grand Saline, are scheduled for 2 p.m., Thursday, July 12, 2012, at Bartley Funeral Home, Grand Saline, with Bro. Wayne Kolendo officiating.
Mr. Vess passed away July 9, 2012, at his residence.
Alvin was born July 23, 1944, in Grand Saline to the late Herman Alvin and Sibyl Cleo Sloan Vess. He served his country in the Navy and married Barbara Lucille Feagin October 1, 1965, in Grand Saline. He lived the last 10 years in Dallas, but lived most of his life in Grand Saline. He was an auto mechanic.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Michael Vess; grandson, Dustin Vess; and sister, Laura Pearl Temple.
Survivors include wife of 47 years, Barbara Vess of Grand Saline; sons and daughters-in-law, Rusty and Anne Vess of Mabank and Billy Joe and Michelle Vess of Texarkana; daughters and son-in-law, Nancy Dement of Jacksonville and Cindy and John Gibson of Grand Saline; brothers and sisters-in-law, Howard and Karen Vess of Oklahoma, Gus and Vicke Vess of Canton, Charles and Elaine Vess of Wylie, Herman and Marty Vess of Quitman, and William and Lisa Vess of Mesquite; sisters and brother-in-law, Helen and Randy Watson and Linda Hightower all of Grand Saline; and nine grandchildren, Ryan Dement, Emily Gibson, Jessie Vess, Andy Gibson, Jared Vess, Lacie Craft, Cydney Dement, Caden Vess, and Chloe Vess.
The family will receive friends 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
